Cambodia, 1971. François Bizot, a French ethnologist, is taken prisoner by the Khmer Rouge and accused of spying for the CIA. For four months, he is chained up and relentlessly interrogated by Douch, the young head of the prison camp. When he is eventually convinced of the prisoner's freedom, Douch goes before the secret central meeting of the Khmer Rouge and secures the Frenchman's release. Four years later, Bizot and Douch meet again when Phnom Penh falls to the Khmer Rouge. Together, they negotiate the s
