Description:
This is an intimate look of women’s impotence in rural India to deal with rape. Lalli and Painku are a young couple brought together by arranged marriage. Lalli’s life of indentured servitude and drudgery in exacerbated with Painku’s coldness and lack of interest in her. When one day the couple is alone, the village chief and other men gang rape Lalli while Painku restrains her. In the middle of the night, a beaten and shattered Lalli kills Painku with an ax and is jailed for life.
